New part-time Master’s degree program “M.Sc. Medical Laboratory” at the University of Leipzig
In the winter semester 2026/2027, Leipzig University will introduce the new continuing education master’s degree program “M.Sc. Medical Laboratory”. The four-semester, part-time course qualifies scientists for demanding tasks in medical diagnostics and laboratory medicine.
The course is offered under the auspices of the Institute of Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostics at Leipzig University Hospital. It combines medical fundamentals with modern analytics, data analysis, quality management and digital developments such as automation, big data-supported evaluation and artificial intelligence. Through specialized elective modules, students can sharpen their profile in a targeted manner.

- Admission requirements: Completed master’s degree or equivalent degree in a natural or life sciences subject, usually 12 months of professional experience in the medical field and English language skills at B2 level
- Tuition fee: 4,960 euros per semester (total 19,840 euros)
- Additional: semester fee (expected to be 330 euros, incl. Deutschlandticket)
The modules can also be booked as individual continuing education courses independently of enrolment. Members of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL) have the opportunity to support their master’s thesis with a scholarship of 5,000 euros.
The degree programme prepares students for positions of responsibility in medical laboratories, the in vitro diagnostics industry, public authorities and the pharmaceutical industry. It strengthens interprofessional cooperation and contributes to securing highly qualified specialists in laboratory medicine.
