Ahead of World Laboratory Day: New proficiency test programs in 2026, extended Rili-BÄK transition period and focus on preanalytics

by | Apr 22, 2026 | Health, Research

In the run-up to World Laboratory Day on 23 April 2026, the reference institutes RfB and INSTAND e.V. have published their proficiency test programmes for 2026. The updated Rili-BÄK provides for an extended transitional period for the requirements of Table B1-1 (glucose and potassium). Preanalytics remains a central focus of external quality assurance.

The Reference Institute for Bioanalytics (RfB) has presented its 2026 proficiency test program with a new structure. It enables more practical samples and more resource-efficient production. The programmes continue to be based on Parts B1 to B5 of the Rili-BÄK.

INSTAND e.V. also offers the updated catalogue 2026, with new molecular genetic and spectroscopic proficiency tests.

The German Medical Association has extended the transitional period for the requirements of Table B1-1 on the use of suitable examination materials (in particular glucose and potassium) by two years until May 2028.

Preanalytics remains in focus, as errors in this phase are responsible for the majority of laboratory errors. The proficiency tests are used for external quality assurance in accordance with Rili-BÄK.

World Laboratory Day on April 23, 2026 recognizes the importance of laboratory diagnostics for patient care.
