Psychotherapy: National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds plans blanket fee reduction of ten percent
The professional association unith e.V. warns of an imminent blanket reduction of fees for psychotherapeutic services by ten percent. According to media reports, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds is pushing for a corresponding reduction, which is expected to be decided by the Evaluation Committee (BA) at its meeting on 11 March 2026 and is to take effect before the end of the year. The official BA decision of 21 January 2026 speaks of a review of the evaluations of central psychotherapeutic services.
unith e.V. sees such a measure as a considerable threat to the outpatient care of mentally ill people. In view of increasing demand, long waiting times, high administrative burdens and growing operating costs, a blanket reduction would threaten the economic existence of many practices and lead to fewer therapy places. Regional inequalities would continue to worsen. Blanket cuts without a needs analysis or differentiated control weaken functioning structures and send a fatal signal to the professional group and those affected.

The association emphasizes that mental illnesses have been increasing for years, while access to therapies is already more difficult. A reduction in fees would not only endanger current care, but also the financing of outpatient training positions for future specialist psychotherapists.
unith e.V. supports the petition “No reduction in psychotherapeutic fees” on Change.org and instead calls for transparent, needs-based and future-oriented solutions. Blanket austerity measures are not a suitable answer to the growing demand.
The association represents the interests of psychotherapists in training and further education as well as university training institutions nationwide and is committed to fair working conditions, high-quality training and sustainable care.
