Gender medicine: Quitterer calls for funding for new licensing regulations
The President of the Bavarian State Medical Association is calling for sufficient financial resources for the implementation of the new licensing regulations for doctors. The reform must not fail because of money, he stresses. He agrees with the Federal Minister of Health that gender-specific differences in medicine have so far been given too little consideration.
In many diseases, there are differences in symptoms and therapies depending on gender. Clinical trials have only recently begun to take into account the needs of women, and there is a need for further research. There is a lack of appropriate content in training.

The new licensing regulations provide for gender medicine as a mandatory part of the degree programme. This would familiarize students with gender-specific aspects at an early stage, which would improve the data situation and care. Politicians must provide the required funds.
The reform adapts training to medical, didactic and digital progress, with greater emphasis on scientific work, practical and competence-oriented content and social skills. A further delay due to disagreement over funding between the federal and state governments would be a fatal signal for Germany as a science and health location.
