by | Dec 8, 2025 | Health, Research

The Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) has published preliminary results of a Health Technology Assessment (HTA) on non-drug treatment options for vulvodynia. An interdisciplinary team led by the Institute for Research in Operative Medicine at Witten/Herdecke University is investigating the benefits of procedures such as pelvic floor therapy and psychotherapy for itching and pain in the vulvar area.

The study compares these approaches with drug therapies, other non-drug methods, placebos, waiting control groups or the absence of treatment. The aim is to gain evidence-based insights into the effectiveness and benefits of these procedures. The assessment is carried out as part of IQWiG’s ThemenCheck Medizin procedure, based on suggestions from citizens.

IQWiG invites the expert public, institutions and interested parties to submit comments on the preliminary report by 9 January 2026. These may lead to changes or additions, if necessary after scientific discussion.
