German Cancer Congress 2026 dedicated to the future of oncology

by | Nov 13, 2025 | Health, Research

From February 18 to 21, 2026, the German Cancer Congress will take place in the CityCube Berlin, where experts from science, medicine, nursing, healthcare, politics and self-help will discuss the cancer medicine of the future. In view of the ongoing shortage of skilled workers and limited financial resources in the healthcare sector, as well as around 500,000 new cancer cases in Germany every year – and the trend is rising – the focus is on specialised therapies and diverse patient groups that require a high level of care.

The congress, with around 10,000 participants the largest and most important in the German-speaking world, bears the motto “together – targeted – sustainable”. He emphasizes the need for interprofessional exchange and dialogue with those affected, the targeted use of artificial intelligence, personalized medicine and closer links between research and care. In addition, oncology is to be made fit for the future by attracting young talent. In around 300 sessions, innovations in research, diagnostics, therapy and care will be discussed, supplemented by topics such as modern care structures, health policy reforms, prevention, possibilities and limits of AI and machine learning, precision medicine, gender-sensitive oncology, ethical issues and global oncology.

Young talents receive scholarships as well as special offers such as expert discussions, speed dating with oncological working groups, further training, a science slam and a photo exhibition.

The congress, which takes place every two years in Berlin, is organized by the German Cancer Society and the German Cancer Aid Foundation and has a strong interdisciplinary orientation. The German Cancer Society, founded as the successor to the Committee for Cancer Collective Research established in 1900, is the largest oncological society in the German-speaking world with around 8300 members in 25 working groups, 16 state cancer societies and 33 supporting members. It promotes evidence-based cancer care, interdisciplinarity and quality standards and is a co-initiator of the National Cancer Plan and a partner of the National Decade Against Cancer.

The German Cancer Aid Foundation, founded in 1974 by Mildred Scheel, fights cancer under the motto “Help. Research. Inform.”. It supports projects on prevention, early detection, diagnosis, therapy, aftercare and psychosocial care, including self-help, as well as research and health policy initiatives. As the largest private sponsor of the fight against cancer in Germany, it finances its activities exclusively through donations.
