OnkoAktiv receives Cancer Innovation Award Baden-Württemberg 2025

The nationwide OnkoAktiv network, founded at the National Center for Tumor Diseases in Heidelberg, has been awarded the Baden-Württemberg Cancer Innovation Award 2025. The award recognizes the contribution to the integration of exercise into oncological care.

The National Center for Tumor Diseases Heidelberg is a cooperation between the German Cancer Research Center, the Heidelberg University Hospital, the Heidelberg Medical Faculty and the Thorax Clinic Heidelberg.

The prize of the Baden-Württemberg Cancer Association honors innovative approaches in the prevention, treatment and support of cancer patients. It was presented to Joachim Wiskemann, founder and head of the Oncological Sports and Exercise Therapy working group, at a conference in Freiburg. The prize, which is awarded every two years, is endowed with 5,000 euros.

OnkoAktiv was founded in 2012 at the National Center for Tumor Diseases in Heidelberg and has developed into a nationwide network for oncological movement promotion. It offers cancer patients quality-assured access to individually tailored exercise therapy close to home.

The network connects oncological facilities with rehabilitation centres, physiotherapy practices, sports clubs and fitness studios. A certification process ensures quality; Supporting members such as yoga groups and trainers complement the offer.

The prize honors the work of the network. The prize money will be used to provide digital information to establish exercise as an integral part of oncological therapy nationwide.
