Symposium in Homburg: Artificial Intelligence in Medicine

by | Dec 3, 2025 | Digitization, Health

On January 16 and 17, 2026, the symposium “Artificial Intelligence in Medicine” will take place at the Homburg Medical Campus. The event is organised by the Health.AI network, Saarland University Hospital and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The aim is to promote exchange between medicine, computer science and society on the use of AI in healthcare.

Artificial intelligence is already established in clinics and practices. It analyzes X-ray images, predicts disease progression and supports drug development through rapid evaluation of large amounts of data. The symposium will shed light on how AI is making diagnoses more precise, optimising therapies and making healthcare processes more efficient. At the same time, challenges such as data protection, ethical questions and the traceability of AI decisions will be discussed.

The program starts on January 16 with basics of AI and its role in medicine. This will be followed by lectures on AI in image diagnostics, drug development and clinical practice. On January 17, the focus will be on topics such as AI-supported image interpretation, applications in dentistry, pediatrics and ophthalmology, and digitization in family practice. From 1:40 p.m., ethics, trust and cybersecurity will be discussed. Practical workshops starting at 2:45 p.m. will deepen topics such as explainable AI, data literacy and the use of health data.

The Health.AI network, supported by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) with 14 million euros, promotes AI innovations in medicine. The symposium is aimed at experts, researchers and interested parties, offers networking opportunities and is applied for as further medical training (CME points). Program and registration are available at ki-symposium-homburg.de. Participation fees apply, reduced tickets are available for students and employees of Saarland University. The venue is barrier-free, and free childcare is offered.
