Miniaturized medical technology is changing emergency and intensive care medicine
Miniaturized medical technology opens up new possibilities for faster and more precise care in emergency and intensive care medicine. The COMPAMED Innovation Forum will show which concrete innovations are currently shaping change in a digital webinar on May 21, 2026.
Overburdened emergency rooms, scarce personnel resources and the increasing need for rapid diagnoses characterize everyday hospital life. Wearable sensors, mobile diagnostic devices and intelligent systems now enable continuous monitoring of vital parameters such as heart rate or oxygen saturation in real time. Artificial intelligence supports medical staff in decision-making, forecasting and resource planning. By networking vital data, laboratory values and other information, a comprehensive overview of the patient’s condition is created. Advanced sensor technology detects critical changes at an early stage and prioritizes alarms.
User-friendliness is particularly important, experts emphasize. Medical devices must be designed in such a way that they largely exclude operating errors and reduce complexity.

In the future, implantable, wearable or even swallowable sensors as well as compact diagnostic systems – for example for the early detection of strokes – and mobile therapy devices such as miniaturized dialysis units could further improve care. ICUs are evolving into highly connected, AI-powered environments that intervene preventively and enable personalized treatments.
The digital COMPAMED Innovation Forum entitled “Miniaturized MedTech for Maximum Impact: Innovations for Emergency and Intensive Care” will take place on May 21, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (CEST). The free event is organised by IVAM together with Messe Düsseldorf and brings together experts from medical technology and hospitals. The focus will be on user expectations, new approaches to vascular access, biosensors, wearables, robotic systems and the safe operation of medical technology under time pressure.
The webinar will provide an overview of current developments and at the same time serve as a preview of COMPAMED, Europe’s leading trade fair for suppliers to the medical manufacturing industry. Registration is required.
