MHH in 115th place in Newsweek Smart Hospital Ranking

The Hannover Medical School (MHH) has achieved a placement in the ranking of the “World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2026” of the American weekly newspaper Newsweek for the first time. With 115th place worldwide, it is one of the 350 leading institutions and occupies the ninth best German clinic and the only smart hospital in Lower Saxony. The ranking highlights modern treatment centers that use technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotic surgery, telemedicine, and automation to optimize patient care.

The MHH is thus positioning itself as a driving force for future-oriented health research and care. The ranking underlines the success of the innovation strategy and serves as an incentive for continuous improvement.

In addition, the MHH achieved top rankings in nine out of twelve categories in the “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026” ranking. The Department of Cardiology and Angiology ranks 59th among the world’s 300 best in cardiology. In oncology, the Clinic for Hematology, Hemostaseology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation ranks 81st. Pneumology at the Clinic for Pneumology and Infectiology ranks 41st out of 150, while Cardiac, Thoracic, Transplant and Vascular Surgery ranks 44th. The neurology department of the Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology comes in 63rd place. The Clinic for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology qualifies among the 150 best departments in Endocrinology and Gastroenterology, as does the Orthopaedic Clinic. In neurosurgery, the MHH Clinic ranks 30th out of 125 worldwide.

The Newsweek rankings are based on a global online survey from May to July 2025 in cooperation with Statista. They take into account recommendations from medical professionals, accreditation data, certifications and patient-related result reports.
