Urine status

by | Mar 4, 2025

Urine status, also known as a urine test or urinalysis, is an important part of medical diagnostics. The urine is tested for various properties in order to find indications of diseases such as kidney problems, urinary tract infections or metabolic disorders.

Why is it important?

Urine testing helps to monitor the health of the kidneys and urinary tract and can detect early signs of diseases such as diabetes or liver problems. It is simple, non-invasive and is often performed during routine check-ups, before surgery or when symptoms such as pain on urination occur.

How is it carried out in Germany?

In Germany, urine testing is carried out in several steps:

  • First, the patient collects a urine sample, ideally the midstream urine, in a sterile container, after cleaning the genitals to avoid contamination.
  • The urine is then visually checked for color, clarity and odor.
  • Test strips are used to measure chemical parameters such as pH value, specific gravity, glucose, protein and others.
  • If necessary, the urine sediment is examined microscopically for cells, bacteria and other components.
