Astrid Petersmann holds the professorship for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IKCL) at Oldenburg University Hospital. She is a specialist in laboratory medicine and a graduate biologist and has headed the IKCL at Oldenburg University Hospital since 2020. In 2023, she was elected by the biobank structure’s utilization council as scientific director of the CF biobank structure.

Her particular areas of expertise are patient-oriented immediate diagnostics and NMR spectroscopy. In research, she is dedicated to the investigation of the metabolome and the biochemical characterization of large clinical-epidemiological cohorts. Important cooperation partners include SHIP, NAKO, MuSPAD, ELISA and STAAB.

She is involved in the University Medicine Network and the German Biobank Node. She is a member of the Genetic Diagnostics Commission at the RKI and of expert group D1 of the Rili-BÄK and is active as a trained peer in the peer review procedure in accordance with the Rili-BÄK as part of the curriculum of the German Medical Association.
