The Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry (IKCP) at Otto von Guericke University with its central laboratory has been an integral part of the Faculty of Medicine since the university was founded in 1993. The institute provides a wide range of laboratory medical tests in clinical chemistry, hematology, hemostaseology, endocrinology, infectious serology, immunology, cerebrospinal fluid diagnostics and Varia for inpatient and outpatient care at Magdeburg University Hospital. The specialist staff carry out around three million individual analyses per year. The institute also operates a laboratory diagnostics MVZ. Affiliated to the IKCP is the laboratory for newborn screening, which treats all newborns in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt without exception.

The IKCP is particularly recognized for its special lipidological diagnostics. A university outpatient clinic for patients with severe lipometabolic disorders is affiliated and is actively involved in Phase II-IV clinical studies. The institute is authorized to provide further training for specialists in laboratory medicine and clinical chemists.

In the area of teaching, the IKCP offers lectures and internships for medical students and students on the Master’s degree course in Immunology. Clinical traineeships and internships are possible at the institute.
