Description

The Institute of Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostics offers laboratory diagnostics tailored to individual patient care at the highest analytical level – around the clock. In addition, the ILM carries out newborn screening as a partner in the Saxony Screening Center and the Thuringia Prevention Center. As a partner in the Center for Rare Diseases, the LICA Allergy Center, the University Cancer Center UCCL, the Coagulation Outpatient Clinic and the Transplantation Board, the Institute is closely networked with clinics at Leipzig University Hospital and is involved in scientific cooperation projects and clinical studies. As part of the research focus on thromboinflammation, cardiovascular research and clinical mass spectrometry, a wide range of methods has been developed and numerous influential publications have been achieved. The ILM is also significantly involved in the development and operation of the Faculty of Medicine’s medical biobank.

The department is responsible for the training of students of human medicine, dentistry and pharmacy and offers courses for students of chemistry and biochemistry. Clinical traineeships and half a PJ tertial can be completed at the ILM. It is authorized to provide further training in the field of laboratory medicine and as a clinical chemist. Modern internships for medical-technical laboratory assistants (MTLA) are available.
