Central laboratory of Heidelberg University Hospital

Description

The central laboratory of Heidelberg University Hospital includes the large routine laboratory on the university campus, which provides 24-hour acute diagnostics in the area of patient care, as well as three satellite laboratories in hospitals in the surrounding area. In addition to routine diagnostics, the central laboratory offers a wide range of special analyses, such as high-performance liquid chromatography, allergology, steroid laboratory, autoimmune diagnostics, molecular biology, immunology, atomic absorption spectroscopy and platelet function.

In teaching, the central laboratory holds a 14-day course block in clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine twice a year as part of the Heidelberg Medical Curriculum (HEICUMED) – this is a topic-centered, modular course rotation program as part of the reform course.

The central laboratory carries out analyses for over 200 studies at the University Hospital. Its research mandate includes the establishment and testing of new laboratory medical methods and biomarkers. The Central Laboratory also conducts independent research in the field of endocrinology and diabetology.
