Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf

Description

The Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IKCL) in the Center for Diagnostics at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is one of the largest university laboratory medicine facilities in Germany. It is active in patient care, research and teaching. As the central diagnostic unit at the UKE, the IKCL provides laboratory medical care for all outpatients and inpatients as well as numerous external senders. It offers a wide range of laboratory medical examinations on a permanent basis – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. One diagnostic focus is on coagulation diagnostics, which is closely linked to the UKE’s “Vascular Biomedicine” research focus. The scientific work at the IKCL focuses on thrombosis and hemostasis, vascular inflammatory processes and innate immunity as well as the interactions between these complex systems. The research area also includes intravital microscopy, the faculty’s core facility “Mass Spectrometric Proteome Analysis” and the work area “Experimental Vascular Laboratory Medicine”.

The Institute is authorized to train specialists in laboratory medicine and clinical chemists.
