Description

The central laboratory of the University Hospital Erlangen (UKER) at the Friedrich-Alexander-University guarantees the supply of clinical-chemical parameters as well as other selected tests from the field of laboratory medicine in a 24-hour shift service. In addition to routine analysis, the spectrum of clinical chemistry includes therapeutic drug monitoring and drug screening, inflammation markers, protein diagnostics and tumor markers, special tests from endocrinology as well as vitamin and trace element analysis. The main focus of the central laboratory is on routine care with the throughput of large sample quantities on the one hand and emergency care on the other.

In the area of teaching, the laboratory offers a wide range of medical and scientific courses. Full authorization for further training as a specialist in laboratory medicine is available. In addition, UKER employees work as lecturers in clinical chemistry at the vocational school for medical-technical laboratory assistants (MTLA) at Erlangen Hospital.
