Description

As the central laboratory of Cologne University Hospital, the Institute of Clinical Chemistry offers a comprehensive range of laboratory analysis tailored to clinical needs in the fields of clinical chemistry, haematology, haemostaseology, endocrinology, immunology, cerebrospinal fluid analysis, special metabolic diagnostics and molecular biology. The laboratory has comprehensive laboratory automation and is highly digitized. For the areas of cerebrospinal fluid analysis, dementia marker analysis and the determination of antineuronal antibodies, findings are made in direct cooperation with the clinic and as part of clinical conferences.

In teaching, the Institute offers lectures, seminars and practical courses on the topics of liver diagnostics, kidney diagnostics, lipid diagnostics, diabetes mellitus, haemostaseology, small blood count/anaemia, differential blood count/leukaemia, microscopic differential blood count, immune system and inflammation diagnostics, thyroid diagnostics and cerebrospinal fluid diagnostics. The Institute is authorized to provide further training for specialists in laboratory medicine and clinical chemists. Furthermore, the Institute of Clinical Chemistry supports the MTA school in theory and practice. In research, the Institute works closely with the Institutes of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Cologne as well as other institutes at Cologne University Hospital.
