Focus on recombinant proteins: 8th Hall Conference brings industry and science together
From 12 to 13 March 2026, the “8th Halle Conference on Recombinant Proteins” at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) will be dedicated to the latest developments in the biotechnology of recombinant proteins. The two-day conference will take place in the ballroom of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in Halle (Saale) and is expected to attract around 300 participants from science and industry.
Recombinant proteins, biotechnologically produced active ingredients, play a central role in medicine, for example in the treatment of diabetes, autoimmune diseases and certain tumor diseases. The event will cover the entire spectrum from basic research to industrial application: new analytical methods, the development of tailor-made proteins and their therapeutic use are on the agenda. The aim is an intensive exchange between academic and industrial research in order to identify common interests and projects.

The conference is based on an initiative of protein researcher Prof. Dr. Rainer Rudolph , who died in 2009, and is supported by an organizing committee that includes representatives from academic research, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and the Rainer Rudolph Foundation. Prof. Dr. Frank Bordusa from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at MLU emphasizes the bridge-building between the fields.
The conference has developed into an international forum and takes place without a participation fee in order to enable students in particular to participate. A preliminary program includes plenary lectures and contributions on topics such as macrophage-targeted RNA therapy and further advances in protein production.
