Electronic patient record: High awareness, low use

by | Jan 15, 2026 | Health, Research

One year after the introduction of the electronic patient record, only just under 20 percent of the population use the offer, although around 80 percent know about it. A survey conducted by Civey on behalf of Pharma Deutschland shows that people between the ages of 18 and 29 in particular use the file at 28.7 percent, followed by residents of eastern Germany at 24 percent and men at 22.1 percent.

Low usage prevents benefits such as simplified medical histories, better recognition of interactions, and advances in research through pseudonymized data. Complete information in the file facilitates diagnoses and therapies in practices, clinics and pharmacies. The pharmaceutical industry is developing digital services based on such data for personalized care.

The survey is based on 5000 representative responses and is evaluated on a regionally differentiated basis. Pharma Deutschland represents 400 companies with 80,000 employees, which provide the majority of medicines.
