DKLM 2025: MedLab Awards honor innovations in laboratory medicine
The MedLab Awards of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL) will be presented today, October 22, in Leipzig. The award ceremony will take place as a premiere in the Salle de Pologne and marks the start of the German Congress for Laboratory Medicine 2025. Admission begins at 6 p.m., the program includes welcomes, a ceremonial speech on the history of Leipzig and musical accompaniment by ensembles of the Leipzig University Orchestra. The event lasts until 11 p.m.
The awards honour outstanding achievements, creative approaches and sustainable impulses in laboratory medicine. They honour contributions to scientific excellence, innovative diagnostics, interdisciplinary cooperation and the promotion of young researchers. Up to 200 participants, including experts and young scientists, celebrate innovations and successes in the industry.
Among the prizes awarded is the Scherer Medal for outstanding achievements in science and the promotion of clinical chemistry. It is named after the pioneer Johann Joseph von Scherer and is awarded by the presidium of the society.

The Gábor Szász Prize honors outstanding work in clinical chemistry and pathobiochemistry. Donated in memory of Gábor Szász and sponsored by Roche Diagnostics Germany, it is endowed with 15,000 euros. The award winner is Prof. Dr. Maike Frye from Hamburg.
The Digital Laboratory Award honors the optimization of processes and interfaces in the laboratory, for example through the detection of pre-analytical errors, the analysis of measurement results or the use of artificial intelligence. Sponsored by the Limbach Group, it comprises 15,000 euros. The winners are Dr. Yadwinder Kaur and Dr. Dr. Armin Piehler.
The Ivar-Trautschold Young Scientist Award supports young scientists for outstanding contributions in clinical chemistry and pathobiochemistry. Sponsored by Sonic Healthcare Germany, the endowment is 10,000 euros. The winner is Dr. Dr. Silke Meyer-Zimmermann.
In addition, poster prizes of the society and the DVTA will be awarded, each endowed with 1,000 euros.
The Salle de Pologne venue is centrally located in Leipzig’s city centre and is easily accessible by train, tram or car. Parking is available in nearby garages. Special rates for hotels and train travel are available for congress participants.
The German Congress of Laboratory Medicine (DKLM) 2025 promises exciting insights into the interface between science and clinical practice. Under the motto “Science for Precision Medicine”, the German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL) and the Umbrella Association for Technologists and Analysts in Medicine Germany (DVTA) invite experts from research, clinics and industry to meet on October 23 and 24 at the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL). The two-day event is aimed at laboratory physicians, biomedical analysts and decision-makers to discuss current advances in diagnostics and strengthen networks.
