Congress in Saarbrücken: Artificial Intelligence for Seamless Patient Care
On August 27, 2025, the congress “Patient-oriented care management – digital before outpatient before inpatient” will take place at the Innovation Center of Saarland University in Saarbrücken, organized by Netzwerk Health.AI Saar. The event starts at 2 p.m. and brings together stakeholders from science, politics, the healthcare industry, health insurance companies and care practice to discuss the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in cross-sectoral patient management. The aim is to show ways in which AI can improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare by ensuring that patients receive the appropriate treatment in a timely manner.
The congress will highlight how AI can enable seamless care from the doctor’s office to the hospital, pharmacy, rehabilitation centers and nursing services. Topics include the redesign of access to healthcare, the infrastructure of a “digital hospital” and the importance of data for effective care. A key point is building trust among patients, the medical profession and the public in order to fully exploit the potential of AI.

The event will begin with a welcome address by Dr. Ralph Nonninger, Partnership Coordinator of Health.AI, followed by a welcome address by the Saarland State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digital Affairs and Energy, Elena Yorgova-Ramanauskas. Three keynotes will address key aspects: Daniel Cardinal from Techniker Krankenkasse will talk about access to care, Gerald Heinz from T-Systems International will talk about the infrastructure of the digital hospital, and Jil Berning, founder of femote, will address the problem of missing data in care. A panel discussion starting at 3:50 p.m. will be dedicated to the question of how transparent communication can create trust in AI-supported systems. Experts from various fields are involved, including the Saar Health Region and the K8 Institute for Strategic Aesthetics.
A “marketplace for projects and companies” presents concrete AI applications, such as predictive analytics, digital pilots or cross-sector data platforms. Companies and institutions will present solutions that are intended to anchor AI in practice. The congress will end with a networking session from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The alliance now has 181 partners: In addition to Saarland University Hospital, HBKsaar and htw saar, 46 research institutions such as the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence DFKI, the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security, the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBMT and the August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute are involved, as well as 73 companies, 17 clubs and associations, 15 clinics, 10 networks and transfer companies, six health insurance companies and its own Health.AI cooperative. The partners involved are mainly from the Saar region, but many also come from all over Germany.
