Austerity proposals threaten medical care in Bremen and Bremerhaven
The Bremen Medical Association warns of a deterioration in medical care due to the savings proposals of the Health Finance Commission. The main burden of the planned cuts will be borne by the medical and nursing staff.
The proposals of the federal government try to compensate for political failures of the past decades in the short term on the backs of service providers and insured persons, the chamber explained. Specifically, it is planned to reintegrate nursing staff costs into the DRG system and to waive the refinancing of tariff increases. However, good working conditions and appreciative collective bargaining agreements are necessary to keep staff in care. Cuts at this point would lead to emigration in the long term.

Direct fee cuts are also planned in the outpatient sector. This includes the abolition of the additional remuneration regulations for arranged and short-term appointments within the framework of the appointment service points. This would remove the incentive to provide additional capacity in outpatient care. It is to be feared that patients will either forego treatment or visit the already overloaded emergency rooms.
