Day of General Practice 2026 in Bochum is dedicated to future competencies in primary care
The 9th Bochum Day of General Practice will take place on 21 March 2026. The organizers are the Department of General Practice at Ruhr University Bochum and the Institute of General Practice and Outpatient Health Care at Witten/Herdecke University. The programme includes numerous practical workshops and seminars on current topics in general practitioner care. The event is organized according to the specifications of the German Society for General Practice and Family Medicine (DEGAM) independently of industrial sponsors.
Family doctors, doctors in training, physician assistants, medical students and medical assistants are invited. The aim is the professional exchange, information and networking of all those working in general practitioner care or those who will work in the future.
Under the motto “Future Competencies for Primary Care and General Practice”, the focus will be on the challenges of digitalization, including AI-supported practice management systems, electronic appointment scheduling, telemedicine, electronic patient records and digital health applications as well as their impact on the doctor-patient relationship and the practice team.

Other focal points are new job profiles such as physician assistant and primary care nurse with changed roles in care, best practice examples of sustainable family doctor models, aspects of climate change, special needs of an aging population and trends in emergency medicine through teleemergency doctor systems. For doctors in further training, challenges in the implementation of guidelines in general practice are addressed. Especially for medical assistants and practice teams, there are offers on resilience and stress management in everyday practice. Another topic is humor in family practice.
A keynote speech will be given by Prof. Dr. Stefan Wilm, Director of the Institute of General Practice at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, who will focus on the family medical function of the family doctor’s practice.
The organizers also use the day to provide information about opportunities for involvement in teaching, continuing education and research. This includes offers for student training, further medical training in the Competence Centre for Continuing Education in General Practice Westphalia-Lippe (KWWL) and activities of the General Practitioner Research Practice Network (HAFO. NRW).
