DIVI Medal of Honour for Professor Hans-Christian Hansen
Professor Hans-Christian Hansen received the Medal of Honour of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI ) at the DIVI Annual Congress in Hamburg. The award recognizes his decades of commitment to intensive care and emergency medicine with a neurological focus.
Hansen, born in Heide (Holstein) and active in Hamburg and Neumünster, shaped the DIVI section Disorders of Consciousness and Coma for 24 years, which he headed from 2013 to 2024. He established advanced training courses such as the workshops on irreversible brain function loss, the Curriculum Delirium Management and the neurological ICU examination course. He also coordinated the Delirium Management Research Award and evaluated submitted projects.

His interdisciplinary orientation of the section led to new fields of work and recognized case compendiums. As a book author and guideline author on topics such as delirium and brain function diagnostics, Hansen combined science, clinic and education. Laudator Professor Frank Erbguth praised him as a “neurological veteran” who had sustainably enriched intensive care medicine.
