MHB expands study places and strengthens health care in Brandenburg

by | Nov 10, 2025 | Health, Research

The Brandenburg Theodor Fontane Medical School (MHB) is expanding its range of courses for the summer semester 2026. In the Brandenburg model course of study in medicine, the number of study places will rise to 84 per semester, 15 more than before. In this way, the university is strengthening health care in Brandenburg, especially in rural regions.

The increase follows intensive internal reviews and addresses social needs. It secures MHB’s economic and strategic basis for sustainable growth. The university, which was founded in 2014 by municipal and non-profit clinics, makes a central contribution to medical care. The first graduates of the model course of study are already working in specialist training at cooperating clinics.

The expansion is continuous: from 48 places per year in 2015 to 48 per semester in 2020 and 69 in 2023, the capacity is now increasing to 84. From 2026, a master’s degree program in addiction support will complement the offer.

The MHB has been accredited by the German Council of Science and Humanities until 2031, including the right to award doctorates and habilitations. In 2026, it will open the state’s first dental clinic in Brandenburg an der Havel to close gaps in dental care.
