CRP

by | Mar 3, 2025

The CRP value, short for C-reactive protein, is an important blood value that indicates inflammation in the body. It is one of the acute-phase proteins that are increasingly released into the blood during an inflammatory reaction.

A normal CRP value is below 5 mg/l (0.5 mg/dl). Values above this can indicate various inflammatory conditions, such as infections, injuries, major surgical procedures, chronic diseases such as rheumatism or tumors.

The CRP value rises rapidly within a few hours of inflammation and falls just as quickly when the inflammation subsides. It is determined using a quantitative blood test, which is carried out either in whole blood or in blood serum. There are also rapid tests that can be carried out directly in the doctor’s surgery.

It is important to have an elevated CRP value medically clarified, as it is an indication of inflammation but does not reveal its exact localization or cause.
