Radiometer celebrates 70 years of diagnostics in acute care

by | Sep 7, 2024 | Corporate News

In 1954, Radiometer launched the world’s first commercially available blood gas analyzer. This event catapulted the small Danish company, which manufactured devices for the radio industry, into the world of diagnostics in acute care.

“The ËAstrup analyzerË‹ was our entry into the healthcare industry and the field of acute diagnostics,” explains Francis Van Parys, President and CEO of Radiometer. “At the time, we had no idea that this device would change healthcare forever. That it would impact millions of lives around the world.”

And he continues: “We started our involvement in the blood gas industry because we wanted to help polio patients. Today, critically ill patients are at the heart of what we do. This work continues today and impacts around 24 million patients every year.”

Today, thanks to the combined efforts of more than 4,400 Radiometer employees, Radiometer products and solutions are developed and supplied to and used in hospitals, clinics and laboratories in more than 120 countries.

“At Radiometer, we are committed to providing diagnostic solutions to support caregivers,” explains Jose Antunes, Vice President and GM Acute Care Diagnostics.

“In view of the growing and ageing population and the global need for efficiency in hospitals, we see our role as a facilitator in the transformation towards personalized and preventive diagnostics. Developing clinically superior solutions requires partnerships. We look forward to continuing to work closely with industry leaders to tackle the challenges in healthcare together.”

We look forward to 70 more years of diagnostics in acute care, 70 more years of partnerships, 70 more years of innovation and 70 more years of continuing to support healthcare professionals in making diagnostic decisions that save lives.
