Intuitive receives CE marking for da Vinci 5 surgical system in Europe
Intuitive, a global leader in minimally invasive medicine and a pioneer in robotic-assisted surgery, has received CE marking for its da Vinci 5 Surgical System. The system is now approved for minimally invasive endoscopic abdominopelvic procedures, including urological, gynecological and general laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery in adults and children in Europe. As Intuitive’s most advanced system, da Vinci 5 offers over 150 improvements over the da Vinci Xi and joins the portfolio of da Vinci systems that performed over 410,000 procedures in Europe and nearly 17 million procedures worldwide in 2024.
According to the manufacturer, the system is characterized by improved surgical sensor technology, including a new type of force feedback technology, highly realistic 3D imaging and an ergonomic doctor’s console that reduces the strain on surgeons. It enables more efficient procedures through greater surgeon autonomy, an intuitive user interface and automated processes. With 10,000 times the computing power and new sensors, da Vinci 5 provides comprehensive data to optimize surgical performance.

The approval strengthens Intuitive’s position in Europe, where healthcare systems are expected to benefit from the system’s operational efficiency and data-driven insights, according to a statement. In addition to da Vinci 5, the product family includes the da Vinci X, Xi and SP systems, which offer hospitals a wide range of options for minimally invasive surgery. da Vinci 5 already received FDA approval for similar applications in the USA in 2024.
Intuitive, headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025 and has enabled almost 17 million procedures with its technologies during this time. Around 90,000 surgeons worldwide have been trained in the use of the da Vinci systems. The company remains committed to its goal of improving patient outcomes, expanding access to minimally invasive care and reducing treatment costs.
