Institute for Laboratory Medicine and Microbiology at Augsburg University Hospital

Description

The Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Microbiology is the central laboratory responsible for the specialist departments of the University Hospital. It also supplies external senders such as several clinics in the region. Every year, almost four million tests are carried out on body fluids (e.g. blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid), smears, punctates, lavages, biopsies and other materials.

The immediate availability of a wide range of tests around the clock is guaranteed. In addition to prompt analysis in the routine laboratory, the institute provides specialist support in medical and diagnostic issues. The institute has special expertise in the field of integrative cerebrospinal fluid and autoimmune diagnostics as well as in environmental analysis, where parameters for human biomonitoring are determined using gas chromatography with mass spectrometry coupling (GC/MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Together with the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Haemostaseology at the University Hospital of Augsburg, we are authorized to provide further training as a specialist in laboratory medicine.
