Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine at the Freiburg University Medical Center

Description

The Institute is a central service facility of the University Medical Center Freiburg and offers laboratory diagnostic analyses for all outpatients and inpatients of the hospital. It uses a university spectrum of methods from the fields of haematology, immunohaematology, haemostaseology, immunology, molecular biology, endocrinology and clinical chemistry. The institute offers emergency analysis with a broad spectrum of analyses around the clock. The focus of laboratory diagnostics in the emergency laboratory is the particularly prompt analysis and transmission of results of urgent examinations. In life-threatening situations, so-called urgent emergencies are processed with the highest priority.

In addition to patient care, the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine is also active in research and teaching. The scientific focus is on clarifying the pathophysiology of lipid metabolism and other risk factors of cardiovascular diseases, which is why the lipid metabolism outpatient clinic of the University Hospital is also located in the Department of Clinical Chemistry. The institute offers the opportunity to train as a specialist in laboratory medicine.
