Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine of the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus at the Technical University of Dresden

Description

The most important task of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IKL) as an accredited institution is to ensure a high level of laboratory diagnostics in the context of patient care and clinical studies for the University Hospital, the Faculty of Medicine and the cooperation partners. At the same time, the IKL sees itself as a cooperation partner in the creation of a central information and communication platform for questions of laboratory diagnostics in the context of patient care at the institutes of the University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine.

The ICL’s research focuses on the regulation of immunological processes, the interaction between inflammation and metabolism and hematopoiesis. The Institute’s research projects focus on the process of leukocyte recruitment, the activation of cells of innate immunity, the regulation of hematopoiesis, cell metabolism, particularly of immune cells, and hypoxia-induced processes in various inflammatory-metabolic diseases. The Institute’s research also focuses on the neurochemical analysis of endocrine diseases and epigenetic mechanisms.

In teaching, the IKL plays a central role in the DIPOL course Pathomechanisms. IKL staff contribute to this course through their own teaching activities such as lectures, practicals and multi-station exercises as well as through tutorials and numerous organizational tasks. In the preclinical phase, IKL staff actively contribute to the “Chemistry for Physicians” part of the course through the chemistry practical and seminars with clinical relevance.
