Description

The central laboratory of the Department of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine at Saarland University Hospital is a modern service provider for the complete laboratory medical care of the University Hospital and neighboring clinics. With well over five million analyses per year and a constantly growing range of new, innovative parameters, it fulfills a central task in the medical care of patients.

In the area of teaching, the department organizes the clinical chemistry internship and is involved in continuing medical education. It is also involved in the training of medical-technical laboratory assistants and is the medical director of the MTLA school. Full authorization for further training as a clinical chemist and authorization for further training as a specialist in laboratory medicine is available. Research activities in the department focus mainly on the development of analytical methods for measuring innovative nutrition-related biomarkers in biological samples. The Department of Clinical Chemistry has a worldwide cooperation network, which is reflected in joint projects, publications and memberships in international organizations.
